SEAI provide grants up to €2,400 to homeowner (pre-2021) and 60% grant for agriculture sector. 

Homeowner, Landlords and businesses that own a building can apply for SEAI grant for solar panels.

With 0% VAT on residential homes, the average cost of solar panels in Ireland is between €7,000 and €15,000. This figure will depend entirely on the size of the system that you want for your home or business. The SEAI grant will reduce this amount, along with reduced energy being supplied by your every increasing utility suppliers, thus further savings will be achieved by getting paid for anything you export back to your supplier.

  • houses, regardless of location, may now install unlimited solar panels on their rooftops without any requirement for planning permission (subject to certain conditions)
  • exemptions also apply to rooftops of industrial buildings, business premises, community and educational buildings, places of worship, health buildings, libraries, certain public utility sites and farms
  • certain restrictions continue to apply, including developments near certain aviation sites, protected structures and Architectural Conservation Areas
